Pro-Mark Company Facts

Pro-Mark Founders

Founded in 1957 by Herb Brochstein; drum teacher and drum shop owner.

First to introduce Japanese Shira Kashi white oak into the American market, and the only company to successfully market oak sticks in the United States, although others have tried.
Pro-Mark received its first “official” endorsement, unsolicited, from Billy Gladstone, a legendary drummer and drum designer/builder.

As a drum shop owner, Herb sold a drumset (which later became very famous itself) to Elvis Presley. Elvis paid cash! That drumset was featured in several Elvis movies (“Jailhouse Rock” and more) numerous television shows (including Elvis’ infamous appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show), international magazines, and dozens of recordings.

Pro-Mark products are exported to over 100 countries, and can be found in virtually every music store in the world.

Our Houston factory is a 30,000 square foot facility containing state-of-the-art machinery. There is room for an additional 60,000 square feet of expansion.

Pro-Mark uses only unendangered wood in the manufacturing of its sticks and mallets. The harvesting of oak from Japan is carefully controlled, and replenishment of the forest is one of our top concerns. Each tree is between 60-120 years old before it is cut. American hickory and maple both grow faster than they are harvested, so there is no danger of running out.

Performance Guarantee

All Pro-Mark sticks and accessories are guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship, including warpage. Our nylon tips are guaranteed not to crack, chip, break or fall off the stick. Your satisfaction is guaranteed on all Pro-Mark products! Comments or questions, call us at 713.314.1100 or contact us online.

Environmental Statement

Pro-Mark Uses Only Non-Endangered Wood

  • Hickory and Maple both grow domestically (in the United States) at a rate faster than they are being harvested.
  • The harvest of Japanese Shira Kashi White Oak is tightly controlled by the government. We must forecast up to two years in advance as to our anticipated needs.
  • Careful calculations are made to assure that each tree yields as many dowels as possible which minimizes waste.

Pro-Mark’s “Finishing” Process Is “Green”

  • Twenty of our stick models feature the “Natural” (no lacquer) finish. Pro-Mark was the first company to offer this option in the early 1990s.
  • Our “Finishing Room” is equipped with a sophisticated filtering system to assure against toxic emissions.
  • 100% of the finishing materials are consumed during the finishing process. There is no waste or residue remaining at the completion of the finishing process.

Recycling

  • 100% of the sawdust and wood chips generated in the manufacturing process are recycled.
  • Recycled materials are used, where possible, throughout the company.

Pro-Mark is always looking at new and more efficient ways to manufacture our products. As always, we welcome ideas and suggestions as to how we can do it better!
